About Us

Celestial Samplings and Stories is an innovative and deeply immersive astrotourism and gastronomy experience, designed specifically for the Góis region in central Portugal. The project represents a carefully crafted fusion between astronomical observation under exceptional dark skies and the tasting of traditional local artisanal products. This creates a unique and transformative tourism experience that deeply connects visitors with the natural splendor and cultural heritage of Portugal's interior.

At its core, this project aims to create meaningful connections between people and the night sky, visitors and local traditions, urban life and rural authenticity, and modern tourism and sustainable development. It recognizes that the most valuable travel experiences are those that transform us, teach us something new about the world and ourselves, and leave positive impacts on the communities we visit.

The integration of astronomy and gastronomy is not arbitrary, as both represent ways of understanding our place in the world. Astronomy reminds us of our connection to the cosmos, our shared humanity under the same stars that have guided travelers and inspired storytellers for millennia. Gastronomy, particularly traditional food culture, connects us to the earth, the specific territory of a place, and the accumulated wisdom of generations of producers who have learned to work with the land rather than against it. Set in the certified Dark Sky region of Góis, our pilot events offer an intimate gathering, ensuring a personalized and unforgettable experience.

The Celestial Samplings and Stories project will take place in the area surrounding the Baloiço das Aigras, located at Alto do Cheinho, at the entrance of the Aldeia do Xisto of Aigra Velha, in the municipality of Góis.

Set in a mountain environment of great natural value, this site is distinguished by its tranquility, scenic beauty, and strong connection to the rural heritage of Serra da Lousã. Situated entirely within the Natura 2000 Network territory, the Baloiço das Aigras offers a privileged north-facing view, highlighting the surrounding landscape and the neighboring village of Aigra Nova, framed in a setting of authenticity and rural charm. From this elevated point, one can observe extensive valleys and hills stretching into the horizon, and on clear days, spot the distant Serra do Caramulo.

The natural surroundings are marked by silence, interrupted only by the sounds of nature, such as the wind and the chirping of birds. The low human interference and reduced light pollution make this location exceptionally suitable for observing the night sky, creating ideal conditions for the project's astrotourism component. With some care and serenity, it is even possible to observe local fauna, such as deer in the wild, reinforcing the sensation of direct contact with nature. Astronomical observation and gastronomic tasting will take place in the open area near the swing, taking advantage of the available natural space, which allows for the safe installation of telescopes and the tasting area.

Our team consists of one dedicated astronomer, a local coordinator, and passionate volunteers dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences.
